Website accessibility
Website accessibility is very important to me as a both website developer and someone who currently works in the public sector.
While there is currently no law or mandatory requirement for private or non-public sector-based entities to comply to any accessibility standard, as someone who works for a public sector, website accessibility is of vital importance and is legal requirement, it is therefore appropriate that any web based project I create also meets both UK and International (W3C) website accessibility standards.
Accessibility statement for www.jmwhite.co.uk
This website accessibility statement applies to www.jmwhite.co.uk, which is the personal site of James White.
This website is developed and maintained solely by me (James White). I want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings.
- Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen.
- Navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software.
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
This website has been specifically designed to have both a light and dark theme which is either automatically applied by existing browser/system preferences or can be toggled as required using the toggle theme option in the footer. Your theme preferences are automatically saved for future sessions.
This website is built with modern website development practices and therefore has certain modern browser requirements. Due to the use of the Tailwind v4 framework and Vite for bundling, the minimum website browser requirement is any of the following browsers:
Microsoft Edge/Chrome 111 (released March 2023)
Safari 16.4 (released March 2023)
Firefox 128 (released July 2024)
Note: These are the minimum browser versions supported. Using a version newer than the stated minimum versions are fully supported.
Other browsers not specifically mentioned may also be supported if they share the same rendering engine and equivalent version of any of the browsers above. Browser versions below these requirements may encounter layout or rendering issues.
How accessible this website is
This website is fully complaint to the WCAG 2,2 AA standard. My blog at blog.jmwhite.co.uk is currently not accessible but is currently being migrated and incorporated into this website as the blog.jmwhite.co.uk site was developed a long time ago and uses much older and less modern design and development practices.
