Comments Policy

For blog content, I have comments through Disqus which allow community engagement. The following policy outlines a code of conduct related to comments.

My blog content provides a public comments feature which is powered by Disqus. Permission for statistics cookies are required in order for the Disqus comments functionality to be enabled to comply with cookie consent laws.

For older blog content before 2018, a different Disqus account jamesblogswp is used to serve these comments, for newer content, the Disqus account handle jmwhite will be used. This is due to there being no way to migrate comments between different Disqus accounts. The former account is considered legacy and is kept active for archive/historic purposes. For both accounts the same guidelines apply and are managed under the same policy.

General guidelines

  • Be polite, respectful and on-topic – Don’t be rude to anyone and respect others, engage with topics with relevant contributions or constructive feedback.

  • Do not use offensive language - No profanity, slurs or rude language that could be considered offensive.

  • Do not engage in unwanted behaviour - Personal attacks, harassment, bullying, hate speech or trolling is forbidden and will result in a ban.

  • Spam? - Don't do it. Simple.

Certain comments can be held for moderation if they contain links or images. If this occurs and your comment does not violate the above guidelines, I will be notified and will approve any comments. This may cause a small delay with your comment appearing but be assured it is not being censored or deleted if it is genuine.

If you find any comments which violate these guidelines, please make sure to ‘flag’ or ‘mark as spam’.

User privacy

Disqus comments allows for using existing social media accounts such as Facebook, Google, Twitter/X as sign options when commenting. This is offered both for convivence and allowing for using Disqus if you do not wish to create a Disqus profile/account. In addition, the guest account option is also enabled for those who do not have or do not wish to use such accounts. Guest commenting allows engaging with my blog content but with reduced features.
